G.N. Kundargi, SIUC Department of Philosophy alumnus, presents "Broad's Theoretical Approach to Ethics," at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, in Faner Hall, room 1326. The lecture is part of the Department of Philosophy's Colloquium Series. Admission is free.

 

The SIUC Concert Choir, Choral Union, and Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra present a fall choral concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, at Shryock Auditorium. The concert is under the direction of choir conductor Susan Davenport Stewart, an assistant professor in the School of Music, and professor and symphony orchestra music director Edward M. Benyas. Admission is $7.50 for the general public and $3 for students of all ages.

 

The Saluki men's and women's track teams open the indoor season by hosting the Fast Start Invitational, Friday, Dec. 7, at the Student Recreation Center. Field events begin at 10 a.m.; track events start at 4:30 p.m.

 

The SIU men's and women's swimming and diving teams host St. Louis University at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Edward J. Shea Natatorium at the SIUC Student Recreation Center.

 

The football Salukis host Delaware in the semifinals of the NCAA Division I football championships at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at McAndrew Stadium. A victory puts the Salukis, 12-1, in the Dec. 14 national title game against the winner of Friday night's semifinal game between two-time defending national champion Appalachian State and Richmond. The Salukis won the Division 1-AA national title in 1983. Ticket prices are $19 for adults and $6 for students — college students, high school and under. The game will be televised by ESPN.

 

The Southern Illinois Children's Choir under the direction of Alice Berry, an assistant instructor in the School of Music, performs at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at Shryock Auditorium. Admission is $5 for the general public and $3 for students.

 

The Saluki women's basketball team hosts Central Arkansas at 7:05 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at the SIU Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for senior citizens, SIUC faculty and staff, and children. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day.

 

Marcin Kilanowski, a lecturer in philosophy and history of philosophy at Nicolas Copernicus University in Poland, presents a lecture on "The Necessity of Idealization in the Pragmatic Perspective of R. Rorty and J. Habermas," at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Faner Hall, room 3059. The lecture is part of the Department of Philosophy's Colloquium Series. Admission is free.

 

The Saluki men's basketball team hosts St. Mary's at 7:05 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the SIU Arena. Tickets in the upper bowl are $12 for adults, and $8 for children; $13 in the Big Dog section. Lower level seating is sold out.

 

A two-hour informational seminar on starting your own business is scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIUC's Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center. The seminar covers the basic requirements of starting your own business including legal structure, startup requirements, finding financing and basic business planning.
