Shakespeare's R&J, a story of four Catholic schoolboys, is playing Wednesday, Nov. 29, through Sunday, Dec. 3, in the Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., each night, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for senior citizens, and $6 for students. Box office hours are noon-5:30 p.m. weekdays and an hour before each performance. The theater and box office are in the Communications Building on campus. Tickets are also available by phone at 618/453-3001.

 

Joseph Podlasek, director of the American Indian Center of Chicago, speaks about “Urban Indians," during a lecture at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the Student Center's Missouri Room. The event is part of Native American Heritage Month.

 

LaSheila Williams, an SIUC doctoral student in the Department of Sociology, presents her findings and facilitates a discussion on relationships between men and women and how women make decisions about contraceptives, reproduction, and sexual desires during the age of AIDS. “Through the Fire," will be presented today at 7 p.m. in Student Center Ballroom A. The event is part of AIDS Awareness Week.

 

The SIU women's basketball team hosts Austin Peay at 7:05 p.m. today at the SIU Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, youths, faculty and staff. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day.

 

More than 75 vendors are expected this week at the 28th annual Holiday Craft Sale, Thursday, Nov. 30, through Saturday, Dec. 2, in the Student Center. The sale is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Items will be on display in the Student Center Hall of Fame and International Lounge areas at the Student Center. Admission is free. Those attending may park at the SIU Arena and take a shuttle to the Student Center, also free of charge.

 

The Dukes of Dixieland perform Friday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m., at Shryock Auditorium. Tickets are $27; $21 for senior citizens 60 and older and children 15 and under. Tickets may be ordered through Ticketmaster at 866/646-8849, at any Ticketmaster outlet, or in person at the SIU Arena ticket office or the Student Center central ticket office. The SIU Alumni Association is sponsoring the event.

 

Various styles of dance — including modern, jazz, and ballet — will be on display this weekend when The Southern Illinois Dance Company presents faculty and student performances in its fall concert. Dance Expresso is at 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, and 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, in Pulliam Hall's Furr Auditorium. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $5 for students and senior citizens, and $4 for children 15 and under. The event is under the direction of Donna M. Wilson, associate professor of dance. Organizers advise parental discretion because of strong language in one piece of music.

 

The Saluki men's basketball team hosts St. Louis University at 2:05 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, at the SIU Arena. Tickets are $18 to $20 in the lower bowl; $12 in the upper bowl; $8 for high school-aged students and younger. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day.

 

The football Salukis play at Montana against the Grizzlies in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I championships at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2. The game will be televised live on ESPN GamePlan and Comcast SportsNet in Chicago.
