Coming eventsDr. R. David Edmunds, the Watson Professor of American History at the University of Texas at Dallas presents the lecture, "On Being Indian: A History of Native American Identity,” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the Student Center Auditorium. Admission is free. The event is part of Native American Heritage Month.
Leahy, part of the Shryock Celebrity Series, performs at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Shryock Auditorium. Eight Canadian siblings perform fiddle-driven Celtic music, dance and vocals augmented by keyboard and percussion. Tickets are $26, $20 for children 15 and younger and senior citizens 60 and older. Tickets are available at the SIU Ticket Office in the SIU Arena or the Student Center Central Ticket Office. An Internet addiction wellness workshop designed to help learn ways to address the problem is from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Student Center’s Mississippi Room. Admission is free.
"Expression Pig: A Dancing Lucid Dream,” will be performed Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 3-5, at 8 p.m. in Kleinau Theater in the Communications Building. Tickets are $5 general admission and $3 for students.
The SIUC women’s volleyball team has a pair of matches at home this weekend. The Salukis face Wichita State at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, and then square off against Missouri State at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5. Both matches are at Davies Gym. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for high school students and younger. SIUC students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
The SIUC Jazz Ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at Shryock Auditorium. Robert E. Allison and Philip Brown, associate professors in the School of Music, are directing the ensemble. Admission is $3 to the general public and $2 for students.
The Football Salukis face Youngstown State in a Gateway Conference game at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, at McAndrew Stadium. Tailgating begins at noon, and ends at kickoff.
The IMEA District VI Jazz Festival is at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, at Shryock Auditorium. Admission is $3 to the general public and $2 for students.
Saluki Basketball gears up this season with home opening exhibitions Sunday, Nov. 6, at the SIU Arena for both the men’s and women’s squads. The women’s team plays St. Louis Goldstar at 2:05 p.m.; the men’s team faces Missouri-St. Louis at 5:05 p.m. The event is "Book in Every Home Day,” and everyone who brings a new or like-new children’s book gets a free ticket to both games.
Former SIUC Chancellor and current visiting professor John S. Jackson delivers the Faculty Emeritus lecture at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, in the law school auditorium. Jackson will speak on "Three Decades of Research on Presidential Elections and Political Parties.” Admission is free.
The Will Rogers Follies performs at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Shryock Auditorium. A winner of six Tony Awards, Will Rogers' story comes to life in this award-winning musical.
