Pressing for passage — Jennifer Arteaga, a junior in automotive technology, was among the speakers at a news conference on Tuesday, Oct. 30, urging the Illinois House to pass ‘Illinois Works,’ the state’s capital construction plan. Several key SIUC projects, including the Transportation Education Center, the final phase of the Morris Library renovation and expansion and other repair and remodeling initiatives, are included in the bill that the Senate approved in September. Also speaking at the news conference, held at the Southern Illinois Airport, were SIU President Glenn Poshard; SIUC Chancellor Fernando M. Treviño; Paul Sarvela, dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts; Jan Grimes, executive director of the state’s Capital Development Board; and Lucy Sloan, vice chair of the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
