Open house is Nov. 4

SIUC will open its doors to some 300 prospective students and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Student Recreation Center.

Those who arrive before 8:30 a.m. can take the early bird campus tour after checking in.

Activities get under way at 9:30 a.m. Presentations will focus on the admissions process, financial aid, housing, orientation, scholarships (including those for academically gifted students) and opportunities both for transfer students and for those who have not yet selected a major.

Admissions, financial aid and housing will offer individual counseling from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and students may apply for on-the-spot admission at this time. To complete the admission process, those in high school must bring official copies of their transcripts and ACT or SAT scores; transfer students must furnish copies of transcripts from each college they have attended.

University staff will be on hand from 10:30 a.m. to noon to talk about specific majors, career and placement services, and student life and student support services organizations.

Some departments will offer individual tours at noon and 1 p.m.; campus and residence hall tours will be given at selected times throughout the day.

Students need not make appointments to attend the open house but are encouraged to pre-register. The admissions office will accept online pre-registrations through Nov. 1. To register electronically, visit the office Web site and select the "Open House & Visit Programs" link.
