Coming eventsA seminar on drug testing in professional sports will be held at 7 p.m. today (Oct. 25) in the Hiram L. Lesar Law Building auditorium. Speakers are Edward B. Thompson, SIUC assistant athletics director and head trainer — who is in charge of drug testing for SIUC athletics, and law professor William A. Schroeder. Free pizza and beverages are available starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The School of Art and Design presents a lecture by visiting artist Bill Conger at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, in Lawson Hall 131. The event is free.
Daniel A. Primont, SIUC professor in economics, presents a lecture on "Morishima-Cross Elasticity of Substitution," at 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27, in Faner Hall, room 4135. Primont's lecture is part of the Vandeveer Lecture Series and is sponsored by the economics department.
The SIUC women's volleyball team hosts Northern Iowa at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27, at Davies Gym. Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and kids. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day.
Creations made by young artists from the community are on display Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Allyn Building. The event is open to the public. This exhibit showcases artistic creations produced during the Saturday Young Artists Workshop, an eight-week series offered by the art education department in the School of Art and Design.
Jeweler, kinetic sculptor and percussionist Ira Sherman hosts a gallery walk and slide lecture at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, in the University Museum Auditorium.
"Hansel and Gretel," part of the Southern Illinois Symphony Series, will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28, at Shryock Auditorium. Tickets are $19, $13 for senior citizens 60 and older and children 15 and under. Tickets may be ordered through Ticketmaster at 866/646-8849, at any Ticketmaster outlet, or in person at the SIU Arena ticket office or the Student Center central ticket office.

The event is sponsored by the Global Media Research Center.
