Coming eventsA wide variety of artwork from undergraduate students is on display starting today through Nov. 8 in the Fall 2005 Undergraduate Art Show. Approximately 30 pieces are on exhibit in Art Alley, located on the second floor of the Student Center. Admission is free. A reception will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, in Art Alley.
The SIUC women's volleyball team has a pair of matches at home this weekend. The Salukis face Bradley at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21, and then square off against Northern Iowa at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22. Both matches are at Davies Gym. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for high school students and younger. SIUC students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
The Marjorie Lawrence Opera Theater presents Milton Granger's Talk Opera, plus musical theater scenes from other Broadway musicals. Performances are at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21 and 22, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23. The performances are at Shryock Auditorium. Tickets are available at the door. Tickets are $10 for adults and senior citizens and $5 for students.
The last of three Safe Zone -- Ally Training workshops for the 2005 fall semester is Monday, Oct. 24, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Grinnell Hall, Brush Towers, lower level. The workshop identifies faculty, staff and students who can provide support and resources for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual transgender and questioning (GLBTQ) students, faculty and staff. Participating as a GLBTQ ally helps create a campus that is inclusive and affirming. The workshop and membership are free.
Tango Flamenco, part of the Shryock Celebrity Series, performs at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 24, at Shryock Auditorium. Sixteen dancers, along with musicians of Spain's Compaina Talent Danza perform in an authentic and innovative combination of tango and flamenco dance, song and music. Tickets are $29, $23 for children 15 and younger and senior citizens 60 and older. Tickets are available at the SIU Ticket Office in the SIU Arena or the Student Center Central Ticket Office. Tickets may also be ordered by phone at 618/453-2000, or through Ticketmaster at 866-646-8849.
“Leave No Family Behind,” a community based discussion on issues surrounding marriage, equality, same-sex marriage and daily obstacles faced by gay and lesbian families will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the Student Center's Illinois Room. Admission is free.
