'Masks at the Glove' on displayNearly 200 students from 12 separate classes in the School of Art and Design will be displaying mask art in a new exhibit, "Masks at the Glove." The exhibit is being offered in conjunction with the Behind the Masks exhibit at the University Museum and the current Masks of Transformation conference. Students in a variety of classes including Foundations of Art, Industrial Design, Communication Design, Metals, and Art History make the masks on exhibit. Media used includes industrial materials, metals, glass, ceramics, painting, fiber, and even a few Legos. Sandra Charlson, a lecturer in Art History, is organizing the exhibit with assistance from Khristina Vaughn. Charlson teaches classes in African and Native American art history where masking is one of many focal points. "Masks at the Glove" is on display in the Glove Factory from Saturday, Oct. 8 through Oct. 31. The event is free and open to the public daily and on weekends. A reception for the student artists is from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Glove Factory. |
