Workshops provide tools for supervisorsNew workshops for individuals with supervisory responsibilities are being well received on campus. Mary Anne Osborne, SIUC's workforce learning and development officer, conducts the three-hour sessions that are designed to give new and experienced supervisors an opportunity to discuss supervisory issues such as performance, communication and teamwork. The workshops also include an early look at performance evaluation forms for Civil Service and Administrative/Professional employees that were created with input from the Civil Service and A/P Excellence Concept Teams. "Not all supervisors have had formal training in evaluating others consistently, fairly and in a non-threatening manner," Osborne said. "We hope to provide tools that help the supervisor and employee as they work through the performance evaluation process on a formal basis and on a continual basis throughout the year." The workshop provides insight on how to communicate to individuals what their part is in providing services to students and how their performance affects everything from enrollment to retention. All supervisors should attend the training and more information is available by linking to the following schedule and emailing your workshop preference, or by calling Osborne at 453-1393. Sessions are offered through Dec. 15.
