Coming eventsArthur Miller's, "The Crucible" will be performed Wednesday, Oct. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 8, in McLeod Theater. Show times are 7:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday; there are also 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $6 for students. Alumni Association members receive a 20 percent discount.
If you are sad, anxious, overwhelmed or in pain, a free and anonymous self-assessment is available during Mental Health Screening Day, Thursday, Oct. 5. Screenings are available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Student Health Center and Student Center, and from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thompson Point's Lentz Hall. The screenings are co-sponsored by the Student Health Center Wellness Center and Counseling Center.
Ben C. Zissimos, assistant professor at Vanderbilt University, presents a lecture on “Why Are Customs Unions Regional?” at 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6, in Faner Hall, room 4135. Zissimos' lecture is part of the Vandeveer Lecture Series and is sponsored by the SIUC economics department.
The SIUC women's volleyball team hosts Missouri State at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6, at Davies Gym. Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and kids. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day.
The SIUC men's and women's cross country squads host the Saluki Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 7. The 5K women's race begins at 10 a.m., the 8K men's race starts at 10:45 a.m. at the SIUC Cross Country Course. Participating schools in the 11-team event include Arkansas State, Creighton, Eastern Illinois University, University of Evansville, University of Illinois, Saint Louis University, Southeast Missouri State University and SIUC.
The three-time defending Gateway Conference champion and unbeaten Salukis host Western Illinois for Homecoming at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at McAndrew Stadium. The Salukis are ranked No. 9 in The Sports Network's Top 25 poll this week. Tickets are $17 for prime reserved seats and $14 for all other reserved and general admission seats. Prices are $8 for high school and younger. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day.
The 35th annual Miss Eboness Pageant is at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at Shryock Auditorium. Tickets are $7 and may be purchased through Ticketmaster at 866/646-8849.

A discussion at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, in the Student Center's Illinois Room centers on “Peace and Respect in Schools.” The joint program for GLBT and Latino Heritage Month focuses on bullying and discrimination in schools with a focus on children and adolescents from ethnic and sexual minority groups. Admission is free.
Former White House Chief of Staff Andrew H. Card Jr. will present a lecture at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, in Shryock Auditorium. Admission is free. Card's appearance is part of the Morton-Kenney Public Affairs Lecture Series and is sponsored by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute and the SIUC Department of Political Science.
Father Joseph A. Brown, director of Black American Studies at SIUC, delivers the University's Charles D. Tenney lecture at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the Student Center Auditorium. A reception and book signing follows his talk. The events are free and open to the public. |
