Coming eventsIllinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Ann G. McMorrow presents a lecture at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28, in Student Center Ballroom D. McMorrow's lecture is part of the Jeanne Hurley Simon Lecture Series. McMorrow is the state's first female supreme court justice. The lecture is free. "La Raza Social," part of Latino Heritage Month, begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Student Center's Alumni Lounge. A free reception and exhibit opening of "A Diva Triumphs," featuring opera singer Marjorie Lawrence's gowns and accessories is from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30, in University Museum in Faner Hall. For more information, call 618/453-5388. A free public town meeting that focuses on a national movement for bilingual education is from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, in Lawson Hall, room 161. The Chicago Chamber Musicians bring the exceptional artistry of violin, French horn and piano by three of Chicago's top musicians to the stage of Old Baptist Recital Hall. The performance is at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1. Admission is $3 for the general public and $2 for students. Author, humorist and radio personality Garrison Keillor comes to Shryock Auditorium at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 3. Keillor, host of the popular radio program, "A Prairie Home Companion," will also be present for a book signing. Tickets are $36, and available at either the SIU Ticket Office in the SIU Arena or the Student Center Central Ticket Office. Tickets may also be ordered by phone at 618/453-2000, or through Ticketmaster at 866-646-8849. A free workshop for Safe Zone – Ally Training, which identifies faculty, staff and students who can provide support and resources for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual transgender and questioning (GLBTQ) students, faculty and staff. The workshop is noon, Wednesday, Oct. 5. Participating as a GLBTQ ally helps create a campus that is inclusive and affirming.
