Open house set for Oct. 9 at SIUCSIUC will hold an open house for prospective students and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the Student Center. Open house kicks off with an early-bird campus tour at 8:30 a.m. with check-in taking place at 9 a.m. Activities get under way at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome, followed by a "How to Become a Saluki" panel discussion on the admissions process, financial aid, housing and orientation, plus a few tips on getting the most out of open house activities. Workshops, which run from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will focus on scholarship opportunities for academically gifted students, choosing a major, and programs and procedures specifically for transfer students. Admissions, financial aid and housing will offer individual counseling from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. University staff will be on hand from 10:30 a.m. to noon to talk about specific majors, career and placement services, and student life and student support services organizations. Some departments will offer individual tours at noon and 1 p.m.; campus and residence hall tours will be given at selected times throughout the day. Students may apply for on-the-spot admission from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the open house. To complete the process, those in high school must bring official copies of their transcripts and ACT or SAT scores; transfer students must furnish copies of transcripts from each college they have attended. Students need not make appointments to attend, but are encouraged to pre-register. The admissions office will accept online pre-registrations through Oct. 4. To register electronically, visit the office Web site and select the "Open House & Visit Programs" link.
