SIUC logo usage guidelines now availableA guide to assist University departments and employees on logo usage is now available at http://www.siuc.edu/~logo/ In February, a committee of campus representatives was formed to analyze, develop and make recommendations to the chancellor for official documented visual identity guidelines. The Web site covers issues including logo usage, placement, proportion/sizing, fonts, and unacceptable logo treatments. The Web site also provides details concerning approvals, stationery, Web usage guidelines, and suggested vendors. Prior to these guidelines, the last official visual identity manual was produced in 1972. Since then, three logos have been used to identify the University. Between 1972 and 2001, more than 150 secondary logos were developed to promote University colleges, departments and programs; secondary logos were retired in 2001. The Visual Identity Committee goal is educating SIUC colleges, departments, units and organizations "on how to convey a clear, consistent, cohesive message that directly belongs to the SIUC family." The committee has developed "SIUC Identifiers," which provide some individualism for colleges, departments and units while still modeled after the main SIUC logo. The identifiers must be requested and approved by a college's dean or unit director, and are designed and developed by University Communications — Creative Services to ensure accuracy and consistency. The identifiers also eliminate the need for secondary logos, which are currently not permitted. SIUC identifiers may be used on all materials such as:
