Distinguished Organ Recital Series is FridayOrganist Lynn Trapp and the St. Louis Brass Symphony Quintet present"An Organ and Brass Spectacular," at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, at Shryock Auditorium. The performance is part of the Marianne Webb and David N. Bateman Distinguished Organ Recital Series. Trumpter Susan Slaughter, considered one of the world's premier female brass players, will also appear. Slaughter, who is with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, is the first woman ever named Principal Trumpet of a major symphony orchestra. In addition to performing all over the world she conducts many seminars, some specifically for femal brass performers. Slaughter will be joined by Symphony colleagues -- Thomas Drake, assistant principal trumpet; Timothy Myers, principal trombone; Gerard Pagano, trombone, and Tod Boermaster, horn. Trapp is familiar to Shyrock concert goers. He graduated with an organ degree from SIUC, and earned his doctorate from the University of Kansas. Beyond his notability as an organist, he is an internationally recognized composer and choral conductor. He serves as director of worship and music and organist at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Trapp is also the principal artistic director of the Distinguished Organ Recital Series.
