Latino Heritage Month looks at influence in U.S."Latin Influence in the United States" is the focus of Latino Heritage Month at SIUC. The national observance runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 each year. Keynote speaker for this year's celebration is Daniel Ibarra-Fitzgerald, assistant to the director for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and a 1989 SIUC graduate with a bachelor's degree in social work. He was previously director of programs and services for Casa Central, the largest Hispanic social services agency in Chicago. Ibarra-Fitzgerald, who will speak Tuesday, Sept. 20, holds master's degrees in social service administration and management, and is working on a third master's degree in business administration. In addition to his work with needy and at-risk populations, he also has taught classes at Loyola University and Northeastern Illinois. In 2004, he was named the SIUC School of Social Work Outstanding Alumnus. All events are free unless otherwise noted. The schedule is: Thursday, Sept. 15
