Former SIU Trustee George Wilkins diesDr. George T. Wilkins Jr., who served on the SIU Board of Trustees for 21 years, died Saturday, Sept. 10, in Evanston.
Wilkins, 72, of Culver, Ind., served on the SIU Board from 1979 until July 2000. A native of Wolf Lake, Wilkins, a pediatrician, earned his medical and baccalaureate degrees from the University of Illinois, and was a graduate of Culver Military Academy. He is survived by his wife, Frances, four children and four grandchildren. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Legion Memorial Building of Culver Academies. Funeral services are at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 16, at Culver Academies Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Culver Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Northern Illinois University Academic and Athletic Performance Center, Marshall County (Ind.) Community Foundation, or the Culver Educational Foundation.
