John Y. Simon, SIUC history professor and editor of the "The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant," presents a lecture at 7 p.m., today, Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Lawson Hall, room 141. Simon will speak on the value and significance of government documents as part of the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Federal Depository Library Program at Morris Library. The event is free and open to the public.

 

A roundtable discussion, "The Future of E-Commerce," is set for 7 p.m., today, Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Faner Hall, room 4135. The discussion looks at the challenges and possibilities ahead for businesses on the Internet, and also the future impact on college students. Invited panelists are: Terry Clark, chair of SIUC's marketing department; Susan C. Edgren, associate director of the University's Division of Continuing Education; Jon Greenstreet, CEO of the Arthur Agency; and John Pearson, an associate professor in SIUC's Department of Management. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Enjoy and experience a taste of Latino culture with Festival Latino, featuring Chicago-based group Nahui Ollin * Quetzalyolloti. at noon, Friday, Sept. 14. The free event is in the free forum area near the parking garage. The event is part of Latino Heritage Month.

 

The SIUC women's volleyball team hosts Illinois State at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, at Davies Gym in the Missouri Valley Conference opener. It is "Pack Davies Gym" Night, with tickets on sale for $1. SIU is looking to break the single-match attendance record of 668, and also end a 31-match regular-season losing streak to the Redbirds, which dates to 1991.

 

The SIU women's softball team hosts the Saluki Invitational this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 15, and Sunday, Sept. 16, at West Stadium. The Salukis open the five-team round robin tournament with a game against John A. Logan at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Salukis play Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis at 4 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, SIU plays Evansville at 1 p.m. before facing 2007 Division II National Champion, SIUE, at 5 p.m. to close out the tournament. All-tournament passes are available for $10;per-day tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for children.

 

The SIUC women's volleyball team hosts Indiana State at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at Davies Gym. Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and kids. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day. Saluki Athletics is hosting a tailgate beginning at 5 p.m. with hot dogs and drinks available while supplies last.

 

The SIUC Theater Department's "New Faces," is a presentation of scenes and monologues by new and incoming theater majors. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater in the Communications Building. The event is free and open to the public.

 

The film, "Dying to Get in: Undocumented Immigration at the U.S.-Mexican Border," will be shown at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Student Center's Ohio Room. A discussion follows. The event is free and open to the public. The event is part of Latino Heritage Month.

 

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Eugene Jarecki presents the Michael and Nancy Glassman University Honors Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Student Center Auditorium. Jarecki's lecture is based on his recent film, "Why We Fight," which won the 2005 grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival. The film is being shown prior to Jarecki's visit. The film will be shown at 3 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, in Davis Auditorium, Wham Building, room 105. The film and lecture are free and open to the public.
