The SIUC women's volleyball team hosts Western Illinois in the season home opener at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Davies Gym. Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and kids. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day.
Artist and SIUC alumnus Preston Jackson gives a gallery talk about his current exhibit in University Museum at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7, in the museum auditorium. The reception begins at 4 p.m. Jackson earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1969. Jackson's exhibit, a sculpture collection, "Fresh from Julieanne's Garden," runs through Oct. 8. The collection explores the relationships between whites and blacks during the days of slavery.
The SIUC women's volleyball team hosts the 28th annual Saluki Invitational, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8, at Davies Gym. The Salukis play Cleveland State at 7 p.m., Friday. They face UMKC at noon, and Murray State at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and kids. SIUC student tickets are free with a valid SIUC student ID on game day.
The 11th annual Welcome Picnic — kicking off Latino Heritage Month — is from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, at Bucky's Haven near the campus boat docks. Admission is free.
The Saluki football team faces Northern Illinois at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, in DeKalb. The Salukis are ranked No. 11 in The Sports Network's Top 25 FCS poll this week. The game is being televised on Comcast and SportsNet Chicago.
The SIUC Theater Department's "One-Day Play-Day," gives actors, writers and directors 24-hours to create new, short plays. The shows start at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater in the Communications Building. The event is free and open to the public.
A faculty seed grant workshop is being offered from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Woody Hall, Room C-227. The workshop on preparing applications to the program is also being offered Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more information about the program or to reserve a seat, call the Office of Research Development and Administration at 453-4540.
