Managing personal finances course setKnowing how to manage personal finances can be tricky. A course offered next month by SIUC's Division of Continuing Education recommends ways to save money in managing personal finances by setting aside a little study time and by staking advantage of free advice available on the Internet and in publications. The course should enable each person to decide when a do-it-yourself approach is wise and when professional services are needed. The five hours of classes include a 36-page booklet and supplementary material. The instructor, Jim Swisher, has more than 30 years experience with investments and 10 years experience as a volunteer benefits counselor. The program meets from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., on Sept. 13, 15, 20, and 22 Classes will be in A111 of the Engineering Building. The registration deadline is Sept. 6. Fees are $40 for the general public, and $25 for SIU employees, and members of the SIUC Emeritus and Annuitants Association. Online registrations are being accepted or call the Division of Continuing Education at 618/536-7751.
