The blues, jazz and rock of Dallas-based Andrew 'Jr Boy' Jones closes out the 2007 Sunset Concert Series from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, July 26, on the steps of Shryock Auditorium. The SIUC Student Center, SIUC Student Programming Council, city of Carbondale, and the Carbondale Park District sponsor the series. Admission is free. Glass bottles, kegs, and pets are not allowed.

 

'Aida,' an all-star regional musical based on Verdi's opera of forbidden love between the prince of Egypt and the princess of Nubia will be performed at McLeod Theater over the next two weeks. The musical is part of the McLeod Summer Playhouse. Show times are 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 26, Friday, July 27, Saturday, July 28, and Monday, July 30, and 2 p.m., Sunday, July 29. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. Box office hours are noon to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and one hour before each performance. A two-hour informational seminar on 'Starting a Business in Illinois' is from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center. Topics include paperwork requirements, legal structure, hiring employees finding financing and business planning basics. A $10 materials fee is charged to cover the cost of the business startup kit. The annual Saluki Football Fish Fry and Auction begins at 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at the SIU Arena. Tickets are $8 for adults; $4 for children under 12. Call 618/453-3331 for more information.
