Parking decals for 2007-2008 now available

Parking decals for eligible SIUC faculty and staff are available — with the payroll deduction option being offered once again.

This is the second year the University has utilized a payroll deduction option for faculty/staff vehicle registrations. Last year, 637 employees utilized the offer, which exceeded his initial expectations, said Brian B. Mager, parking division director.

Applications for payroll deductions are being accepted through Friday, Aug. 31. Parking decals for the 2006-2007 academic year expire Sunday, Sept. 30. Each vehicle that is anticipated to be used to park on campus must be registered with the parking division.

Eligible full-time faculty/staff and part-time faculty/staff who are not enrolled as students may purchase blue decals. Eligible part-time personnel may buy either a red or blue decal. Eligible full-time and part-time faculty staff may opt for a free yellow decal only in lots 18 and 56 (south of the Arena), and 24 (Campus beach lots).

Parking decal prices are based upon an employee’s salary level.

There is a slight increase in decal fees this year — $10 for the high blue decals, and $5 for all remaining decals. Parking decals for additional vehicles — provided no one else in your household is affiliated with the University —are now $9, a $1`increase from a year ago.

Mager notes, however, SIUC parking permit fees remain at the lower range among colleges and universities in Illinois. The fees go toward operations and maintenance costs, upgraded lighting, and repaving, such as lot 106 along South Wall Street, Mager said.

The 2007-2008 parking decal prices are:

  • High Blue — $90 for eligible faculty/staff earning $30,000 and over.
  • Med Blue — $75 for eligible faculty/staff earning $20,000-$29,999.
  • Low Blue — $50 for eligible faculty/staff earning less than $20,000.
  • Red — $45 for non full-time faculty/staff.

The plan is in partnership with Human Resources and the University's Payroll Office. The plan is also in response to an Agility and Efficiency Task Recommendation, he said.

Parking decal costs will be deducted in two payments. The first deduction will be taken in October and the second deduction will be in November. A pre-tax payroll deduction payment option for a limited period through Aug. 31 is also available.

Vehicle registration and staff ID's - along with a completed parking decal registration form - are required along with payment.

Payroll deduction authorization forms and the 2007-2008 vehicle registration forms, along with other electronic downloadable forms, are available via the Department of Public Safety's Parking Division. For more information, contact SIUC's parking division at 618/453-5369.
