The Sunset Concert Series featuring the reggae sounds of 'The Ark Band’ is from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, July 12, on the steps of Shryock Auditorium. The series is sponsored by the SIUC Student Center, SIUC Student Programming Council, city of Carbondale, and the Carbondale Park District. Admission is free. Glass bottles, kegs, and pets are not allowed.
The fourth annual McNair Scholars Research Symposium — featuring 11 SIUC scholars from various departments presenting results of their original research — is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, July 13, in Life Sciences III auditorium, room 1059. 'Thoroughly Modern MILLIE,' the regional premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical, will perform at McLeod Theater at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14, and 2 p.m., Sunday, July 15. The musical is part of the McLeod Summer Playhouse. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Box office hours are noon to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and one hour before each performance. For ticket reservations, call the McLeod Theater box office at 618/453-3001.
A two-hour seminar on starting a business in Illinois is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, in the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center. The seminar covers general information needed to launch and manage a successful business. A $10 materials fee is charged to cover the cost of a business startup kit, which includes a business plan workbook, a business startup checklist, a copy of the presentation slides, and other resource materials.
