Coming eventsThe Southern Illinois Music Festival, a Sunset Concert, the second week of the McLeod Summer Playhouse, and a July 4 fireworks and musical tribute are among the events on campus. The Southern Illinois Music Festival presents "John Yeh and the Stars of Tomorrow," at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, at Shryock Auditorium. Tickets are $9.50 for the general public and $6.50 for senior citizens 60 and older, and children 15 and younger. Tickets may be purchased at the SIUC Ticket Office, the Student Center Central Ticket Office, any Ticketmaster outlet. To charge by telephone, call Ticketmaster at 866/646-8849 or visit online. "A Night at the Opera," is presented by the Southern Illinois Music Festival at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 1, in Shryock Auditorium. The concert features the music festival orchestra and vocal soloists. The third of seven shows in the 2005 Sunset Concert series begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, on the Shryock Auditorium steps. This week’s performance features The Pipe Circus, which brings to life funk and jam tunes. "I Do, I Do," a poignant story that follows a couple through more than 50 years of marriage, stars for a second week in SIUC’s McLeod Theater. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 1 and July 2. The musical comedy features faculty members and real husband and wife team Timothy J. Fink and Lori Merrill-Fink in the starring roles. The show is based on the play "The Fourposter," and follows a couple at the turn of the 20th Century. The play was nominated for several 1967 Tony Awards, including best musical, best composer and lyricist. The summer playhouse is co-produced by the McLeod Theater and Carbondale Community Arts. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students For ticket reservations, call the McLeod Theater box office at 618/453-3001. On Monday, July 4, prior to the annual fireworks’ display, Maestro Edward M. Benyas, a professor in the School of Music, leads the music festival orchestra, soloists and chorus in the Outdoor All-American Music Concert. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Arena entrance and features the works of Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin and John Williams.
