Annual fireworks show is set for Fourth of July

The annual Fourth of July fireworks in Carbondale again promises to be filled with spectacular bursts of color.

The event — set for Wednesday, July 4 — always draws a large crowd, so those planning to attend the festivities should arrive early.

The fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m. at SIUC's Abe Martin baseball field, south of the SIU Arena.

Admission is free.

Parking is available in the Arena parking lots. Parking in lots 52 and 37, west of the Arena along Douglas Drive, is also available. Police will restrict traffic along Saluki Drive near the baseball field during the fireworks display, and will close the intersections of U.S. 51 and Saluki Drive, and West Pleasant Hill Road and Arena Drive, to incoming traffic during the show.

The rain date for fireworks is Thursday, July 5.

The Carbondale Lions' Club sponsors the show.

University policies prohibit alcohol, glass, pets or fireworks at the event.
