The Sunset Concert Series featuring the pop/rock sounds of 'Skinny' is from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, June 28, on the steps of Shryock Auditorium. The series is sponsored by the SIUC Student Center, SIUC Student Programming Council, city of Carbondale, and the Carbondale Park District. Admission is free. Glass bottles, kegs, and pets are not allowed.

 

A film presentation and panel discussion on genetic testing is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, June 28, in Kleinau Theatre. 'What Would You Do? Genetic Testing and Life Decisions,' looks at challenges that accompany genetic testing. Panelists include Dr. Sharon Hull, associate professor and interim chair of the Department of Medical Humanities at the SIU School of Medicine; Joanna Rudnick, director of development and producer for Kartemquin Films, and Marilyn Twitty, genetic clinic coordinator for the Jackson County Health Department. WSIU Public Broadcasting, SIU School of Medicine, College of Mass Communication and Media Arts, Department of Speech Communications, and the Illinois Humanities Council is sponsoring the forum.

 

The Brown Bag Chamber Series, part of the Southern Illinois Music Festival, will be performed at noon, Friday, June 29, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall. Admission is free.

 

Summer Camp Concert II, part of the Southern Illinois Music Festival, is at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 30, at Shryock Auditorium. The concert features a choir performance. Admission is free.

 

Donizetti's' opera, 'Elixir of Love,' sung in English, will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 30, at Shryock Auditorium. The opera is under the direction of John Lipe, and is part of the Southern Illinois Music Festival. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students. Relax and jam to the rock sounds of Chicago-based 'The Kimi Hayes Band' at the Sunset Concert Series, Thursday, July 5, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Turley Park in Carbondale. The series is sponsored by the SIUC Student Center, SIUC Student Programming Council, city of Carbondale, and the Carbondale Park District. Admission is free. Glass bottles, kegs, and pets are not allowed.

 

'Thoroughly Modern MILLIE,' the regional premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical, will perform at McLeod Theater starting next week. Show times are 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 6, 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 7, and 2 p.m., Sunday, July 8. The musical is part of the McLeod Summer Playhouse. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Box office hours are noon to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and one hour before each performance. For ticket reservations, call the McLeod Theater box office at 618/453-3001.
