The Southern Illinois Music Festival and the opening performance of the McLeod Summer Playhouse are among the events on campus this week.

In its second week, the Southern Illinois Music Festival includes "Beethoven, Brahms and Bizet" in Shryock Auditorium. The concert, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 23, features Carbondale native and world renowned violinist David Kim, who serves as concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Tickets are $9.50 for the general public and $6.50 for senior citizens 60 and older, and children 15 and younger. The summer's second installment of the Sunset Concerts series starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, at Turley Park on Carbondale's west side. The concert features the band Dutch Henry, performing roots rock and alternative country.

"I Do, I Do," a poignant story that follows a couple through more than 50 years of marriage, opens Friday in SIUC's McLeod Theater. Performance dates are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday June 24 and June 25, and Friday and Saturday July 1, and July 2. A matinee performance is 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26. The summer playhouse is co-produced by the McLeod Theater and Carbondale Community Arts. The beautiful "Swan Lake Ballet," will be performed at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 26, at Shryock Auditorium. The Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra, the Children's Centre for Dance Education of Evansville, and a bevy of local dancers present the timeless ballet. Tickets are $9.50 for the general public and $6.50 for senior citizens 60 and older, and children 15 and younger. "Great Clarinets and an Opera Teaser," is featured at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, at Shryock Auditorium. One of America's most distinguished clarinet performers, John Bruce Yeh of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, along with Teresa Reilly perform with the festival orchestra. Tickets are $9.50 for the general public and $6.50 for senior citizens 60 and older, and children 15 and younger.
