Coming eventsSome of the nation's leading health care experts visit SIUC Friday, May 18, to discuss issues relating to "Access to Care: Who Pays for Health Care for the Uninsured and Underinsured?" The panel discussions for the ninth annual SIH/SIU Health Policy Institute are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the SIU School of Law auditorium. Admission to the workshop ranges from $25 to $40. Registration is available up to the time of the event.
Making a fifth-straight NCAA tournament appearance, the nationally ranked SIU women's softball team hosts an NCAA regional tournament starting Friday, May 18, at Charlotte West Stadium. DePaul faces Mississippi Valley State at 2 p.m., followed by SIU and Missouri at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's session in the double-elimination tournament begins at noon. Sunday's session, which will include the championship game, also begins at noon. All-session passes are $25 apiece; grandstand seating is available for $10 per day, per person. Lawn seating is $7 for adults; $5 for SIUC students with a valid SIUC I.D., high school students and younger. Gates open 90 minutes before the first game each day.
A two-hour informational seminar on starting your own business is scheduled for 1 p.m., Thursday, May 31, at the Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIUC's Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center. The seminar covers the basic requirements of starting your own business including legal structure, startup requirements, finding financing and basic business planning. WSIU Public Broadcasting is hosting its 18th Annual "Friends of WSIU" auction on Saturday, June 2, at the SIUC Student Center Ballrooms. The 2007 event is the annual gala fund-raiser in support of WSIU Public Broadcasting. The event begins at 6 p.m., and includes a dinner buffet, music, two silent auctions and two live auction sets on vacation getaways, golf packages, fine jewelry and art, sports memorabilia, event tickets and much more. Individual tickets are $60 per person, of which $30 is considered a charitable donation, or $480 for a table of eight. To make your reservations, contact Laura Cobin at 453-4287. Visit the WSIU auction to make reservations and see updates on new and exciting auction items. Those interested in attending are encouraged to make their reservations by Friday, May 25.
