Creating green spaceSam Goldman, SIUC interim chancellor, discusses the demoltion of a building at 1101 W. Chautauqua that once housed University offices. In all, 14 buildings are being razed this spring. After demolition, the University will turn the area — along South Elizabeth, West Mill, South Oakland, and West Chautauqua streets — into green space. The venture is a cooperative effort between SIUC, the city of Carbondale, and the Arbor District Neighborhood Association. With Goldman discussing the plan are (from left) Carbondale Mayor Brad Cole, Arbor District Association President Sandy Litecky, and SIU President Glenn Poshard.
