Middle Eastern Myth Busters, a panel discussion that offers real truths about Middle Eastern cultures and its people is at 7 p.m., today, Wednesday, April 23, in the Student Center Mississippi Room. Admission is free. The event is part of Asian American Heritage Month.

 

"The Full Monty," directed and choreographed by J. Thomas Kidd, an assistant professor in the Department of Theater, runs from today, Wednesday, April 23, through Sunday, April 27, at McLeod Theater. The April 23-26 shows begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday, April 27 matinee show starts at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for senior citizens, and $6 for students. The theater box office is open from noon to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and one hour before each performance. Call 618/453-3001 for more information or for credit card purchases.

 

The 1993 Academy Award-winning film "Schindler's List," will be shown at 7 p.m., today, Wednesday, April 23, in the Student Center's Kaskaskia/Mississippi rooms. The event is part of the "Holocaust in Film Series," sponsored by the SIUC Hillel Foundation for Jewish Campus Life and Student Development. Admission is free.

 

A film and discussion on "The Palestinian Non-Violence Movement," is at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 24, in the Student Center's Kaskaskia/Missouri rooms. Hale Yilmaz, an assistant professor in SIUC's history department, leads the discussion. Admission is free.

 

An "Acoustic Ecology Student Symposium" is at 2 p.m., Friday, April 25, in Communications Building, room 1032. The symposium features research/creative projects performed by students in the "Tropical Rainforest Conservation: Acoustic Ecology Field Course," taught in The Republic of Panama in March. The symposium is sponsored by the Global Media Research Center and the Department of Cinema & Photography. The event is free, and open to the public.

 

SIUC alumnus Lynn M. Trapp returns to Shryock Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 25, for a free concert. The concert is part of the American Guild of Organists' Artist Subscription Series.

 

The annual spring flea market sponsored by the SIUC Civil Service Council is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 26, in the Arena parking lot. Costs to sellers for space range from $25 to $35, and payment is due by 4 p.m., today, April 23. Sellers renting space on the day of the sale pay an additional $5. Proceeds go to the Civil Service Education Assistance Fund. The rain date is Sunday, April 27.

 

University Museum hosts a museum program for children from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 26. The program, "Fantastic Theater: Wire Sculpture 2," is best suited for for children ages 7 to 14. Admission is free, but participants are asked to pre-register by calling 618/453-5388.

 

The closing picnic for Asian American Heritage Month is is from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 27, at the Campus Lake boat docks. Admission is free.

 

Photographer-artist Andrew Freeman presents "Manzanar: Architectural Double," at 4 p.m., Monday, April 28, Communications Building, room 1032.  Freeman is co-director of the photography and media program in the School of Art at The California Institute of the Arts. The presentation is sponsored by the Global Media Research Center and the Department of Cinema & Photography. The event is free, and open to the public.

 

Civil rights advocate Eleanor Holmes Norton, a non-voting congresswoman from the District of Columbia, presents the annual SIU School of Law Hiram H. Lesar Lecture at 5 p.m., Monday, April 28. The lecture is in the auditorium at the Hiram H. Lesar Law Building. The lecture is free and open to the public.

 

U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Peoria, presents a lecture at 7 p.m., Monday, April 28, in Student Center Ballroom B, Admission is free.

 

The 2002 Academy Award-winning film "The Pianist," will be shown at 7 p.m., Monday, April 28, in the Student Center's Kaskaskia/Mississippi rooms. The event is part of the "Holocaust in Film Series," sponsored by the SIUC Hillel Foundation for Jewish Campus Life and Student Development. Admission is free.

 

The University Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Joseph Breznikar, a professor in the School of Music, performs at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, at Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall. Admission is $7.50 for the general public; $5 for students

 

"Protocols of Zion," a 2005 documentary film that looks at a resurgence of anti-Semitism in the United States in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks will be shown at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, in the Student Center's Ohio Room. The event is part of the "Holocaust in Film Series," sponsored by the SIUC Hillel Foundation for Jewish Campus Life and Student Development. Admission is free.

 

"Why Not Rule the World, or, The Apocalypse of Binky," a play written by Craig Gingrich-Philbrook, associate professor of performance studies in SIUC's Department of Speech Communication, is performed in Kleinau Theatre, Thursday, April 24, through Saturday, April 26. All shows are at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $7 and student admission is $5.

 

The Performing Culture Spotlight Performance is at 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, in Kleinau Theatre. The show highlights standout performances. Admission is free.
