Two faculty members at Southern Illinois University Carbondale are receiving coveted National Endowment for the Humanities stipends for the summer to further their work on respective book projects.

The recipients are:

  • Jyotsna Kapur, an assistant professor in Cinema and Photography, for her upcoming book "Consuming Childhood, Laboring Children: India’s New Global Generation."
  • Kevin J.H. Dettmar, professor of English, for his upcoming book "Irony in the Public Sphere: History and Theory," which focuses on the fates and fortunes of ironic discourse in Britain and the United States beginning in the 1840's.

The stipends are $5,000 awards and are expected to cover the three-month summer period.
