The SIU women's tennis team hosts Southeast Missouri State University at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, at University Courts. The match will be held at Sports Blast in Carbondale in case of inclement weather. Admission is free.

 

A public discussion on genetically modified foods, including the implications for health, farming and the environment, is set for 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, in the Student Health Center Auditorium. The forum is sponsored in part by WSIU Public Broadcasting. Among the guest speakers are professor David Lightfoot of SIUC’s Plant, Soil and Agricultural Systems program, and Ken Stikkers, a professor in SIUC’s Philosophy Department. Admission is free.

 

"One Fine Day," a work written and directed by SIUC associate professor and playwright David Rush about a university professor who finds his career on the line when anti-semitism charges are brought against him, is being performed beginning at 7:30 p.m., today (April 11) through Sunday, April 15, in the Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater in the Communications Building. The play recently premiered in Chicago and captured first prize in the New Play Contest at Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, Pa. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The box office is open from noon to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and one hour before each performance. Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for senior citizens, $6 for students and children. The SIUC Chamber Singers, under the direction of conductor Susan D. Stewart, an assistant professor in the School of Music, perform at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall. Admission is free.

 

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan presents a lecture at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in the SIU School of Law Hiram H. Lesar Law Building Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the pubic.

 

Renowned geneticist and cancer researcher Rick A. Kittles presents a lecture on "Human DNA Sequence Variation and the Inherited Basis of Complex Diseases," at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in the SIUC Student Center Ballroom B. The lecture is free and open to the public.

 

The SIUC Egyptian Suzuki School Recital, under the direction of Paula M. Allison, an assistant instructor in the School of Music, is set for 4 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in the Old Baptist Foundation Hall. Admission is free.

 

"Asian Religion and Philosophy," a discussion of research and information on Asian philosophy by faculty and students in SIUC’s Philosophy Department is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in the Student Center’s Illinois Room. The event is part of Asian American Heritage Month. Admission is free.

 

The Spring 2007 Student Speakers Forum, sponsored by the Society for Civil Discourse and the Department of Speech Communication, is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in the SIU School of Law Hiram H. Lesar Law Building Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the pubic.

 

The Southern Illinois Civic Orchestra, under the direction of Eric Lenz, an assistant professor in the School of Music, performs at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in Shryock Auditorium. Admission is $4 for the general public; $2 for students.

 

The Saluki men’s baseball team hosts Wichita State in a three-game series this weekend at Abe Martin Field. SIU faces the Redbirds in single games that begin at 3 p.m., Friday, April 13; 2 p.m., Saturday, April 14, and 1 p.m., Sunday, April 15. Admission is free.

 

The SIU men's tennis team hosts a pair of Missouri Valley Conference teams this weekend. The Salukis host Drake at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 14, and Creighton, at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 15, at University Courts. The matches will be held at Sports Blast in Carbondale in the case of inclement weather. Admission is free.

 

The nationally ranked SIU women's softball team hosts Missouri Valley Conference foe Missouri State in a three-game series on Saturday, April 14, and Sunday, April 15. The Salukis face the Bears in a doubleheader that begins at noon, Saturday, and in a single game at noon, Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and children. SIUC students are free with a valid SIUC student ID.

 

The 1994 film, "Chungking Express," will be shown at 7 p.m., Sunday, April 15, in Davis Auditorium (Wham 105) as part of the University Honors Program’s International Film Series. The event is part of Asian American Heritage Month. Admission is free.

 

SIUC Saxophone Studio Recitals under the coordination of Tyler K. Kuebler, an assistant professor in the School of Music, is set for 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 16, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Susan Harrington Godley will deliver the SIUC Rehabilitation Institute’s annual Guy A. Renzaglia Lecture at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, in the Student Center Auditorium. Godley, whose talk is entitled, "Almost Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Southern Illinois: Research to Improve Practice," was on the first students to receive a doctorate in the program. She also holds a master’s degree from SIUC in what was then behavior modification. Admission is free.

 

"Asian Myth Buster," A fun-filled panel discussion presented by Alan Kim, an associate professor in SIUC’s foreign languages and literatures program, will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, in the Student Center's Illinois Room. Admission is free.
