Local poet’s works set to music for concertEnjoy an afternoon of lyrical music based on the writings of an imminent local poet when "A Love Imagined," is performed Sunday, April 17, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Shyrock Auditorium. The free concert begins at 2 p.m. Frank L. Stemper, a professor in SIUC's School of Music, composed songs to 10 poems written by Herbert Scott of Carbondale. Pianist Heidi L. Williams, an assistant professor in the School of Music, and tenor Paul Eric McCluskey, a teaching assistant in the School of Music are performing Stempers' work. Scott is reading the poems before they are performed. Scott is the husband of Shirley Clay Scott, dean of SIUC's College of Liberal Arts. Herbert Scott's book, "Sleeping Woman," is based on artist Richard Diebenkorn's painting of the same name, Stemper said. April is National Poetry Month. |
