The highly acclaimed Indian cultural performance group, Natya Dance Theater, performs at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, in the SIUC Student Center, Ballroom D. Admission is free.

 

"Stupidity, Privacy, and the First Amendment: What Every Frat Boy Should Know After Borat," is set for 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, in the SIU School of Law Room 102. The panel discussion features William H. Freivogel, interim director of the School of Journalism; Laura E. Hlavach, assistant professor in the School of Journalism; Mark Schultz, an assistant professor in the SIU School of Law; and Jak Tichenor, a producer with WSIU-TV. Admission is free. A question-and-answer session will follow the panel discussion.

 

The SIUC Debate Team, which finished ninth in the nation, hosts members of the Irish National Championship team for a debate at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, in the Hiram H. Lesar Law School Auditorium. The event is free.

 

"New Music from Romania," the music of composers Danceau, Loachimescu and Niculescu is performed at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall. The event is part of the "Outside the Box Music Festival." Admission is free.

 

The clarinet trio of the President's Own U.S. Marine Band performs at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 5, in Altgeld Hall's choral rehearsal room 110. The event is part of the "Outside the Box New Music Festival." Admission is free.

 

The state of broadcasting in Kenya and Uganda is the topic of Henry Kyeyune's lecture when he discusses "Critical Reflections on Politics and Broadcast Policy," at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5, in Communication Building, room 1032. Kyeyune is a doctoral student in the College of Mass Communications and Media Arts. His presentation is sponsored by the Global Media Research Center. Admission is free.

 

A free public lecture that introduces the principles of Nonviolent Communication is set for 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5, in the Communication Building's Kleinau Theater. Certified NVC trainer Jeff Brown and Rhonda Mills present "Speaking Peace, the principles of Non-Violent Communication." Admission is free.

 

The SIU women's tennis team hosts three teams this weekend. The Salukis host Bradley at 3 p.m., Friday, April 6; Indiana State at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 7, and Illinois State at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 8, at University Courts. The matches will be held at Sports Blast in Carbondale in case of inclement weather. Admission is free

 

The SIU women's softball team hosts Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake in a three-game series on Friday, April 6, and Saturday, April 7. The Salukis face Drake in a single game at 4 p.m., Friday, and then host the Bulldogs in a doubleheader that begins at noon, Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and children. SIUC students are free with a valid SIUC student ID.

 

The Altgeld Chamber Players perform at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 6, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall. Admission is $6.50 for the general public and $3 for students.

 

The world famous Lipizzaner Stallions take to the SIU Arena for two shows on Saturday, April 7. The first show is at 2 p.m., the second show is at 7:30 p.m. VIP seats are available for $22.50; regular admission and adult tickets are $19.50. VIP seats for senior citizens 60 and over and children 12 and under are $20.50; regular admission tickets are $17.50. Tickets may be ordered through Ticketmaster at 866/646-8849, at any Ticketmaster outlet, or in person at the SIU Arena ticket office.

 

The SIU men's baseball team hosts Valparaiso for two games this weekend at Abe Martin Field. The Salukis play at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, and 1 p.m. Sunday, April 8. Admission is free.

"Springtime Broadway Pops" hits the Shryock Auditorium stage at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 10. The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra and acclaimed singers perform favorite Broadway tunes in the pops tradition. Tickets are $19; $13 for senior citizens 60 and older and children 15 and younger. ickets may be ordered through Ticketmaster at 866/646-8849, at any Ticketmaster outlet, or in person at the SIU Arena ticket office, or the Student Center Ticket Office.

 

Alfred Lubrano, author, journalist and National Public Radio commentator, presents the Charles D. Tenny Lecture Series at 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, in the Student Center Auditorium. The lecture is based on Lubrano's book, "Limbo: Blue Collar Roots, White-Collar Dreams." Admission is free.
