Recktenwald to appear in tsunami documentary
William Recktenwald, SIUC’s journalist-in-residence, will appear in a History Channel documentary on December’s deadly tsunami.
Recktenwald was interviewed for a special documentary, “Tsunami 2004: Waves of Death.” The program airs at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, on the History Channel.
Recktenwald was having breakfast on the south coast of Sri Lanka on Dec. 26 when a tsunami struck southern Asia. He grabbed a camera and began snapping photographs of one of the deadliest natural disasters in history and moments later, found himself fighting for survival in 16 feet of water.
