The IJAS Region 8 Science Fair is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 30, in the Student Center Ballrooms. Approximately 600 students from Southern Illinois will compete in 18 different categories, with about 60 projects competing in state competition in May. Viewing of all projects is from 1 to 4 p.m.

 

SIUC law school Dean Peter C. Alexander presents a lecture on how new bankruptcy laws affect women at noon, Thursday, March 30, in Lesar Law Building, Room 102. The event is part of Women's History Month. Contact Women's Studies at 618/453-5141 for more information. Admission is free.

 

Robert L. Schwartz, a professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law, and a nationally recognized scholar and author on Bioethics, will present “The Rules of Engagement in the Bioethics Debate: Lessons from the Terri Schiavo Case,” at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 30 in the Lesar Law Building Courtroom.

 

Indiana University criminal justice professor Harold Pepinsky presents a lecture on "A Radical Feminist Perspective on Violence and its Control," at 4:15 p.m., Thursday, March 30, in the University Museum Auditorium in Faner Hall. The event is part of Women's History Month. Admission is free.

 

Federal Judge J. Phil Gilbert will preside over the naturalization of new U.S. citizens at 11 a.m., Friday, March 31, in the law school auditorium. This is the third year the naturalization ceremony has been performed at the law school. Real estate broker Julian Pei, co-founder and vice president of Realty Central, Inc. in Carbondale, the guest speaker for the ceremonies. The public is invited.

 

A tree dedication closes out Women's History Month at 3 p.m., Friday, March 31, on Morris Mountain, the open area between Morris Library and Wham.

 

The Saluki men's baseball team hosts Bradley in a three game series that begins at 2 p.m., Friday, March 31, at Abe Martin Field. Single games are also scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

 

The SIU women's tennis team hosts Evansville at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 1, at University Courts. The match may be held at Sports Blast in case of inclement weather.

 

The SIU women's softball team hosts Illinois State in a doubleheader, Saturday, April 1, at Charlotte West Stadium. The first game begins at noon. Admission is $4 for adults; $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and kids. SIUC students are free with a student ID. The Salukis host Illinois State in a single game at noon on Sunday to close out the series.

 

The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet performs at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at Shryock Auditorium. Admission is $10 to the general public; $4.50 to SIUC students with a valid ID.

 

The Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award Exhibition and reception is from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 2, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, April 3, in the Surplus Gallery at the Glove Factory, 408 S. Washington, St. The finalists' work is on display prior to judging. Winners are announced at 3:30 p.m., Monday. Admission is free.

 

A workshop on sexual assault prevention -- the perception, facts and reality -- will be held from 3 to 4 p.m., Monday, April 3, in the Student Health Center Auditorium. Admission is free. Contact the Wellness Center at 618/453-5227 for more information.

 

The third annual Research Town Meeting is from 3:30 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, in the Student Center's Corker Lounge and Ballroom B. At 4 p.m., Chancellor Walter Wendler will discuss research being conducted at SIUC. All faculty and staff are invited to attend.

 

The annual Teacher's Job Fair is from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, April 5, in the Student Center Ballrooms. Openings are available in teaching, counseling and administration in school districts from throughout the Midwest. Candidates should bring multiple copies of their resumes and dress professionally.

Chicago Tribune and Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist Clarence Page presents a lecture at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 5 in Student Center Ballroom D. The event is sponsored by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute and is part of the Bill and Molly Norwood Lecture Series. Admission is free.
