Pulliam Scholarship applications due April 6

The SIU Alumni Association is accepting applications for the Roscoe Pulliam Memorial Scholarship.

Four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students currently enrolled or admitted to SIUC. Applicants must be a child, grandchild or sibling to an alumnus or alumna of SIUC who is a current member of the SIU Alumni Association. The applicants must be admitted or currently enrolled undergraduate students for a minimum 12 credit hours for the fall 2007 semester.

Applicants must submit a copy of an SIUC financial aid award letter and three letters of recommendation, including one from the relative holding association membership who can attest to the student's leadership qualities. The two remaining recommendations need to be from SIUC faculty or staff, clergy, or people who can account for the student's moral constitution.

Academic requirements are:

  • Entering freshmen must rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school graduating class, and have a minimum score of 26 on their ACT exam or 1170 on the SAT exam.
  • Enrolled students must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 and provide a current transcript.
  • Transfer students should have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 for all colleges attended and provide all transcripts.

The deadline for applications is April 6. Applications are available from the SIU Alumni Association office. For more information call 453-2417. Applications are also available at www.siualumni.com/pulliam.

The scholarships are given in memory of Roscoe Pulliam, SIUC's sixth president. He served as president from 1935 until his death in 1944.
