Text messaging alert sign-up continuesSIUC students, faculty and staff may now sign up for the University's new wireless emergency notification system. The system allows users to receive SIUC Alerts via text-messages and e-mail. To sign up for the texting service, log on to the SIUC homepage at www.siuc.edu and look for the link to "SIUC Alert — Wireless Emergency Notification System." More than 5,000 people have signed up to receive text-messages and emails. After following the link, the user needs to provide their SIUC ID, which is the portion of their campus email address preceding the @ sign. The user will then be able to type in up to three text-enabled telephone numbers and one e-mail address where they would like to receive alerts from the system. A link to the sign-up page is here. Most questions about the WENS service, including who to contact for technical support, are answered under Frequently Asked Questions on the emergency notification system Web page.
