Women of Distinction nominees sought

University Women's Professional Advancement (UPWA) is seeking nominations for the University Women of Distinction Award. The award recognizes women who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to diversity -- including racial/ethnic, gender, sexual preference, disability and/or class. Nominees should have demonstrated leadership, vision and action in their profession or area of expertise, as well as in service to the University and community.

Any female employed at SIUC for at least 10 years is eligible for the award. The deadline for submitting nominations is April 1.

There are three award categories: admininistrative/professional, faculty, and civil service. No more than one award is made in any category each year. If there are no qualified candidates in one or any of the categories, the award need not be given that particular year.

The awards will be presented at the UWPA Women of Distinction reception in May.

Nomination letters should include a detailed description of those activities and contributions for which the recognition is sought. Two letters of support from other individuals must accompany each nomination. If the individual is being recommended on the basis of job performance contributions, one of the supporting letters must be from a supervisor or other person familiar with the nominee's professional work.

Please contact University Women's Professional Advancement at 453-1366 or e-mail uwpa@siu.edu to request a nomination form.
