Coming events

A Sunday afternoon of poetry reading and Women's History Month events are among the happenings around campus over the next week.

From 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 20, the Southern Illinois Radio Information Service (SIRIS) and Clara Bowie are presenting an afternoon of word and melody. Bowie will perform both her own works and those of other poets, and groups of poems will be introduced and connected with songs. The poetry reading is taking place at Grace United Methodist Church, 220 N. Tower Road, Carbondale. For more information, contact SIRIS at 453-2808.

There will be a discussion on Women in Music at 7 p.m., Monday, March 21, in the Student Center's Ohio Room. On Wednesday, March 23, from 3 to 4 p.m., also in the Ohio Room, "No Body's Perfect" will look at the influence of media, culture and peers on body images, including updates on the increase of body dissatisfaction in males and minorities.

From 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, there will be an award ceremony, reception and reading in the Student Center's Illinois Room, featuring six winners of the Roxana Rivera Memorial Poetry Contest. The contest's judge, Honoree F. Jeffers, a professor at the University of Oklahoma and the author of two prize-winning collections of poetry, will also be present.
