The SIU women's basketball team hosts Stephen F. Austin in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament at 7:05 p.m., Thursday, March 15, at the SIU Arena. Tickets are $6 for adults; $4 for SIUC and high school students and younger. The Salukis, 20-10, earned the bid by winning the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title.

 

The Saluki men's baseball team hosts Western Michigan in a three-game series this weekend at Abe Martin Field. SIUC faces the Broncos at 2 p.m., Friday, March 16; 1 p.m., Saturday, March 17; and 1 p.m., Sunday, March 18. Admission is free.

 

The Saluki men's basketball team faces Holy Cross in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament's West Regional at 8:40 p.m., Friday, March 16, in Columbus, Ohio. The game will be televised on CBS by KFVS.

 

The Saluki women's softball team opens the Missouri Valley Conference schedule with a three-game series this weekend against Bradley at Charlotte West Stadium. SIU faces the Braves in a doubleheader that begins at noon, Saturday, March 17, with a single game set for noon, Sunday, March 18. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and high school students and younger. SIUC students are free with a valid SIUC student ID.

 

The SIU men's tennis team hosts Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianaoplis in the team's home opener at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 17, at University Courts. The match will be held at Sports Blast in Carbondale in case of inclement weather. Admission is free.

 

The SIUC Department of Public Safety presents a "Women's Safety Class," from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, March 19, in Student Center Ballroom A. Admission is free. The event is part of Women's History Month.

 

A workshop for faculty and teaching assistants on how to respond to students' disclosures of violence in relationships is being presented by The Women's Center, from 3 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, in Faner Hall, room 1006. Admission is free.

 

Readings of winning essays from the American Association of University Women writing contest begin at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, in the Faculty Club, 1000 S. Elizabeth St., Carbondale. A reception begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

 

The second Graduate Feminist Scholars Panel, facilitated by Melinda Yeomans, a teaching assistant in Speech Communications, is from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, in the Student Center Mississippi Room. Admission is free.

Mark A. Rothstein, director of the Institute for Bioethics, Health Policy and Law at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, presents the inaugural John & Marsha Ryan Bioethicist-in-Residence lecture at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, in the Life Science III, auditorium, Room 1059. Rothstein will present, "Health Privacy in the Electronic Age." Admission is free, and the lecture is open to the public.
