The SIU women's tennis team hosts SIU-Edwardsville at 4 p.m., today, Wednesday, March 5, at University Courts. The match will be held at Sports Blast in Carbondale in case of inclement weather. Admission is free.

 

 

San Francisco jazz vocalist Sony Holland performs along with the New Arts Jazztet at 7:30 p.m., today, Wednesday, March 5, at McLeod Theater. Admission is $10 for the general public; $5 for SIUC students with a valid SIUC student ID. Tickets are available at the McLeod Theater box office. Box office hours are noon to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and one hour before each performance. For ticket reservations, call the McLeod Theater box office at 618/453-3001.

 

 

Sculptor Ken Little visits the School of Art and Design on Thursday, March 6, presenting a free lecture at 6 p.m. in Lawson Hall, room 121. Little's exhibits include The Forum for Contemporary Art at St. Louis, Diverse Works in Houston, The Washington Project for the Arts and The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D. C., The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The Seattle Art Museum and many others.

 

 

A celebration of International Women's Day, featuring films and discussion, is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, March 6, in the Student Center's Mississippi Room. Discussions include revising widely held views of the Islamic world regarding women's roles, and also looking at common misconceptions about Islam. Admission is free. The event is part of Women's History Month.

 

 

The Saluki baseball team hosts Xavier in a three-game series starting Friday, March 7, at Abe Martin Field. The Salukis play at 2 p.m., Friday, and host single games at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6, and Sunday, March 7. Admission is free.

 

 

"World of Women — An Empirical Voyage through Women's History," is at 7 p.m., Friday, March 7, at the Longbranch Café, 100 E. Jackson St., Carbondale. Highlighted topics in the event, which is facilitated by Jessica L. Bustos, a teaching assistant in SIUC's Department of History, include stories of yesteryear's heroines. Donations are welcome, with proceeds benefiting the Women's Center in Carbondale. The event is part of Women's History Month.
