Chancellor to visit Carterville, McLeansboroChancellor Walter V. Wendler starts a new round of community conversations at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, when he visits Carterville High School, 816 S. Division St., in Carterville. The third stop in an ongoing series of "Your University, Your Community" discussions will be in the high school auditorium. The talks, through which the University hopes to gain insight and feedback on various needs and expectations connected to higher education, have been productive thus far, Wendler said. Students, parents, teachers, school board members, local government officials, state legislators and community members are invited to the forums. The visits allow the University to discuss plans and projects on campus and provide a forum on how SIUC and the schools can further collaborative efforts to improve opportunities for all students. As part of the "Your University, Your Community" initiative, Wendler hosted more than 100 high school officials from districts within a 45-minute drive of Carbondale on campus Feb. 23. SIUC will visit Hamilton County High School at 7 p.m., March 22, in McLeansboro. Other visits are also being planned.
