Associate provost candidate to visit campus

The second of two finalists for associate provost for academic affairs will visit campus next week.

Christopher I. Chalokwu will be on campus Monday and Tuesday, March 7-8. His candidate presentation and open forum is set for 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday in the University Museum Auditorium in Faner Hall. Chalokwu will discuss "Towards a Unified Model for Engagement and Improved Student Outcomes."

Chalokwu is a professor of physical science at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, a Catholic, liberal arts institution with an enrollment of 5,700. From 2001 until last year, he also served as vice president for academic affairs, the institution's chief academic officer.

Between July 1999 and October 2000, he was vice chancellor for academic affairs and professor of geology at Saint Xavier. Previous experience also includes serving as vice chancellor for institutional research and professor at the University of Tennessee-Martin and dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and professor of physical science at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C.

Chalokwu earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northeastern Illinois University, and his doctorate in geology/geochemistry from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

The other finalist, Andrew Sustich, from Arkansas State University, visited campus last month.
