NotablePeter Filip, director of the Center for Advanced Friction Studies, will serve on the steering committee of the 16th International Conference on Wear of Materials, Montreal, Canada, April 15-19. This conference is the largest conference in the world on material wear.
Allison E. Joseph, head of the master's program in creative writing at SIUC, is the winner of yet another national award. The associate professor of English is the recipient of a $5,000 prize in the 2006 Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry contest for her poems "Cartography" and "Emergency Librarian." "I am thrilled and honored by this gift," Joseph said. The Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Memorial Fund recognizes young poets with unusual promise. The late Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg was a published poet in California.
