Preventing hacker attacks — Marshall K. Riley, a senior in computer science, works at preventing cyber attacks during the Illinois Regional Cyber Defense Competition last weekend. Riley was a member of SIUC’s non-scoring "B" team. DePaul University finished ahead of SIUC, Moraine Valley Community College and Illinois State University in the competition. The University of Illinois did not compete as originally scheduled, opening up a spot for another team from SIUC. The student teams competed in defending a corporate computer network — and keeping it running and functional — against a cyber-attack during the 21-hour, two-day competition that started Friday afternoon and ended at 10 p.m. Saturday.
