The SIUC Student Center Craft Shop holds its Valentine Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 13, and Thursday, Feb. 14. The sale is in the Hall of Fame. The event offers jewelry, woven bags, gift baskets, woodcrafts, rugs, quilts, tie-dyed items, handcrafted candles and more. Visitors can even create personalized handmade Valentine's cards or uniquely beautiful duct tape roses.
Allison Joseph, director of SIUC's creating writing program. shares poetry reading in "An Evening with Allison Joseph," at 6 p.m., today, Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Student Center's Missouri Room. The event is part of Black History Month.
The Saluki men's basketball team hosts Missouri Valley Conference-leading Drake at 7:05 p.m., today, Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the SIU Arena. Tickets in the upper bowl are $12 for adults, and $8 for children; $13 in the Big Dog section. Lower level seating is sold out.
The Global Media Research Center sponsors a lecture by Philip Mattera, at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, in Communications Building, room 1032. Mattera presents a lecture and discussion on "The New Greenwashing." Mattera, director of the Washington, D.C.-based Corporate Research Project, Good Jobs First. The event is free, and open to the public.
The concert, "Nuttin' But Stringz," where hip-hop meets violins, is at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, at Shryock Auditorium. Admission is free. The event is part of Black History Month.
The SIU swimming and diving team hosts the Women's Missouri Valley Conference Championships, Thursday, Feb. 14, through Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Edward J. Shea Natatorium in the Student Recreation Center. Preliminaries get underway at 11 a.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. Saturday; finals begin at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $20 for an all-session pass, or $5 per session. Students from participating universities get in free with a valid student ID. The Saluki women's basketball team plays at Drake at 6:05 p.m., Saturday. Feb. 16. The game is televised on Mediacom.
The Global Media Research Center sponsors a panel discussion on the Global Music Industry at 4:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 18, in Kleinau Theater. Music-industry professionals from Nashville and Los Angeles are among the panel members. Todd Herreman, an assistant instructor in the Department of Radio-Television, is moderator the discussion. Admission is free. The panel discussion is co-sponsored by Digital Dog Records.
Nationally recognized award winning photographer Jason Miccolo Johnson shares his perspectives and his work in a "Call and Response Gallery Talk," at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Student Center Illinois Room. Admission is free. The event is part of Black History Month. A reception and book signing follows Johnson's lecture.
Winners from the School of Music's solo competition along with the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra collaborate with "Stars of Altgeld," at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 29, at Shryock Auditorium. The performance is part of the Southern Illinois Symphony Series. Tickets are $19, $6 for students of any age. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
