Jesse White visiting SIUC for Organ Donor NightIllinois Secretary of State Jesse White is scheduled to attend tonight's Saluki basketball game in the SIU Arena. White and Mid-America Transplant Services officials will appear on court during pre-game activities with Gwendolyn Walker, wife of SIU President James E. Walker, and SIUC Provost John M. Dunn.
Mrs. Walker is a past recipient of a lung transplant and is part of a volunteer network that works to promote organ donation. Illinois has the largest donor registry in the nation with more than 6 million people participating, White says. However about 5,000 people in Illinois are on transplant waiting lists. The appearance at the game is designed to help raise awareness for organ and tissue donation. The Salukis face Indiana State in a Missouri Valley Conference game. Game time is 7:05 p.m. |
