NotableJan Waggoner, associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, has been honored with one of four Dare to Be Great awards, given by the Illinois Women Administrators to leaders throughout Illinois. According to Executive Director Dianne C. Gardner, "this award is given to women whose personal stories of leadership in education and policy arenas inspire us to continue to work to make schools, colleges, and universities better places for all students." Stories of Dare winners are the focus of a new book, Leaders Who Dare: Pushing the Boundaries. Previous winners include Elizabeth Lewin, clinical instructor in Educational Administration and Higher Education. Christine L. Svec, associate director of International Programs at SIUC, recently was elected chair of Study Illinois, a statewide consortium of higher education institutions cooperating to increase worldwide awareness of Illinois' higher education opportunities for international students. Svec served as vice chair in 2005 and will continue with a board role as immediate past chair in 2007. She served as Web master since the organization's start and brings a wealth of other experience, knowledge and contacts to her new role. |
