Coming eventsJames Carville, one of the nation's best-known political consultants, commentators and analysts, offers his insights at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, in the Student Center Ballrooms. The event is free to all students, faculty and staff. Admission is $3 for the general public. Cinema & Photography is sponsoring a Visiting Artist/Critic Series during the spring semester, and Zig Jackson will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, in Lawson Hall, room 101. Jackson teaches documentary photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design. A Native American artist, he uses photography to de-mythologize his own history and to break down the romanticized stereotypes of Indians perpetuated by popular media and folklore. Admission is free. Student Center Special Programs & Center Events and Student Center Dining Services are sponsoring a "Valentine Dinner for Two" at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, in the Old Main Room. The menu includes chicken with artichoke in a piccata sauce, beef tips with onions and pepper, baked potato, oranged glazed baby carrots, sugar snap peas, spinach salad, cherry berries on a cloud and black forest cake. Tickets are $12 for students and senior citizens and $15 for the general public. Tickets are available in advance only at the Central Ticket Office in the Student Center or by calling 618/453-3478. The Saluki women's basketball team takes on Missouri State at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at the SIU Arena. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for faculty/staff/seniors and youngsters. SIUC students get in free with a valid student ID. The Bobs bring their unique musical talents to Shryock Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, part of the Celebrity Series. The Bobs sing A Capella, from Bach to Jimi Hendrix. Tickets are $26 for adults; $20 for children 15 and younger and seniors 60 and older.
