AAUW offers scholarships for womenThe Carbondale Branch of the American Association of University Women is offering four scholarships aimed at the educational advancement of women. The scholarships, which will apply to the winners' bursar accounts beginning July 1, are for both graduate and undergraduate studies. The group will give preference to students from the local area attending SIUC. Two $500 scholarships are for female graduate students currently enrolled at SIUC who are continuing or entering any field of graduate education in the Graduate School, or a program of professional education in law or medicine. The Joyce A. Kelly Memorial Scholarship, also aimed at graduate students, is reserved for current, non-traditional students. Family and friends established the $500 scholarship in memory of Kelly, who achieved her education goals late in life as a single mother. The Lelia Marvin Award is a $500 scholarship aimed at undergraduate students transferring to SIUC from John A. Logan College. To apply, students must submit the following:

Joan McDermott, AAUW Carbondale Scholarship Committee, Women's Studies Program, 1006 Chautauqua St., SIUC Mail code 6518, Carbondale, IL 62901. Deadline for applications is Feb. 23. The AAUW will announce winners at the "Celebrate Women" reception March 21. Winners will also be guests of AAUW at its May 8 dinner and fellowship event.
